My Albo Monstera

Let me share a story about my planty journey and the significance of this albo monstera. In the year 2020, I moved into my very first apartment and during this time, the pandemic was still a big phenomena that we all had to deal with. Like a lot of people, I was bored at home and wanted to venture into a hobby that could be experienced on my own terms and easily in the comfort of my new apartment. I had always been attracted to nature so becoming a plant collector just made sense. One of the plants that I never thought I'd own was this one, the albo monstera. A monstera is a pretty common house plant but what make the albo version special is the coloration of the leaves includes splashes of white/cream and lighter shades of green speckled throughout. At this time, since many other people decided to pick up this hobby, to get this special variation of the monstera costed anywhere from $200 or more. Since the price was more than I was willing to pay for a plant, I had put it on my wishlist for a special occasion.
My roommate at the time knew that I had wanted this for a while and very graciously gifted me one on Christmas. It was the most generous gift and one I would truly never get for myself, so I appreciated it greatly. Sadly, in 2023 my roommate and I had to split ways as I got engaged and was preparing to move into a house with my fiance. A lot of the plants I collected ended up either dying or I gave them away since I did not want to bring over too many things during my move. This albo monstera was my most valuable plant, not only price wise but it's sentiment. This plant will always remind me of living in my first apartment and delving into a fun new hobby. It will also be a friendly reminder that I have great friends like my ex-roommate and although we do not stay together anymore, I will never stop appreciating that time of my life.
